Former Damascus High School superstar Bryan Bresee is taking his talents from the DMV to NOLA after being chosen with the 29th pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.
At Damascus, Bresee tallied 134 career tackles, including 80.5 for loss, with 35 sacks. He won a state championship as a freshmen, then as a junior he was named the Gatorade Player Of The Year in Maryland, and he rounded out his stellar senior year by leading his team to a 13-2 record and second state title.
“He has a combination of speed and size that you don’t see at the high school level,” Ray Fowle, head coach at Magruder High School, said to Gatorade officials after his standout junior year.
“He’s a special player with an impressive collection of physical attributes,” the head coach continued. “Any team that attempted to block him with one player lost that gamble. On pass plays we used two linemen and had a running back chip him.”
The defensive tackle was the top rated recruit in the country coming out of high school before opting to sign with Clemson, where he was the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Now, it’s on to New Orleans for the massive 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman.
Bresee fills a hole for the Brees-less Saints and could contribute immediately in the middle of the defensive line after defensive tackles Kentavius Street, Shy Tuttle, and David Onyemata all signed with other teams in the offseason.
